On June 8th 2012 the Oshkosh School Board unanimously approved the hiring of new School Superintendent Stan Mack. This single act will reverberate through the Oshkosh community for many years. What they did was to bring in a hired gun from outside the Oshkosh community. While working in the Robbinsdale School District in Minnesota Stan was responsible for pushing 16 referendums. Things got so bad in Robbinsdale, that the taxpayers had to bring in their own hired gun. The people of Robbinsdale hired Copperhead Consulting from Iowa. A man named Paul Dorr was dispatched to Robbinsdale to do battle with Stan. The people in Robbinsdale had had enough of Stan and they wanted him gone. After defeating Stan’s most recent referendum Paul Dorr went to work on Stan himself. He started an on-line petition to have Stan removed as Robbinsdale’s School Superintendent. Stan left Robbinsdale with his golden parachute and began looking for a new community to plunder. Now he is here in Oshkosh looking to pick the pockets of the taxpayers one more time.
Make no mistake about it, this was not a foolish move by the School Board. It was a calculated, deliberate move to protect their pay and benefits. Remember one thing Oshkosh taxpayers, 79 percent of the School Districts budget consists of salaries and benefits for the teachers. Whatever increases the teachers get so do the administrators. Shortly after his arrival Stan began to assemble his referendum promoting machine. These Oshkosh administrators get paid over $100,000 a year by the taxpayers to promote (GUESS WHAT?) raising your taxes. They are out in the community telling anyone who will listen, why the schools need more money. They do it all day, every day and we pay them to do it. They have been holding misinformation meetings around Oshkosh for months. Most recently they have claimed that if this referendum does not pass they will have to make $3.4 million in cuts to the School Budget in the first year alone. But remember one very important fact, 79 percent of the Oshkosh Area School Districts budget is teacher salaries and benefits. $3.1 million of the proposed cuts is a 1.6 percent cost of living raise for the teachers and absorbing an 8 percent increase in the health insurance premiums. You see, they always want to tell you its for the children, but if you eliminate the pay and benefit increases we only have a $300,000 shortfall.
You see, in reality they put themselves first. All of this is verifiable in an Oshkosh Northwestern article published March 12th 2015. If you do not believe me, you can check it for yourself. Isn’t it ironic that control of our schools is supposed to be at the local level. Our School Board decided to hand over control of our Schools to Stan and his hired guns. The Robbinsdale taxpayers had to bring in their own hired guns to get rid of Stan. Now he is our problem. What are you going to do about it Oshkosh? You can start by voting NO on April 5th. Then we can turn our attention to the School Board and Stan.
